Mirrors of Humanity now open at Fabrique des Lumières, Amsterdam
15 October 2026
Mirrors of Humanity, the new immersive experience built around the work of Jimmy Nelson, is now open at Fabrique des Lumières in Amsterdam.
Across the vast industrial hall of Fabrique des Lumières, Jimmy Nelson’s portraits are projected from floor to ceiling and accompanied by music. Faces from communities on every continent appear at monumental scale, meeting visitors eye to eye.
As its title suggests, the experience is designed as a mirror. Mirrors of Humanity is the newest chapter of Jimmy Nelson’s collaboration with Fabrique des Lumières, which began in 2022 with The Last Sentinels. Where that first show introduced audiences to the communities in his work, Mirrors of Humanity turns the gaze back toward the visitor. Every face invites a quiet exchange, and with it the question that has shaped Jimmy’s life and practice: what happens when we see ourselves through the eyes of another?
The experience reflects the conviction at the core of Jimmy Nelson’s work: that looking at one another with curiosity and openness brings people closer together. Each portrait is the result of time spent within a community, built on conversation and trust long before an image was made.
In Mirrors of Humanity, visitors are invited into that same slow, attentive way of seeing, and to discover how much of themselves they recognise in the faces of others.
