Jimmy Nelson App - Jimmy Nelson

Every portrait Jimmy Nelson makes is a mirror. Look closely and you see more than a face from another part of the world. You see something of yourself: the same pride, the same longing to belong, the same shared humanity.

The Jimmy Nelson App invites you to step through that mirror. Scan an image in one of the books, at an exhibition, through Cult-ED (our free education programme) or online, and the photograph opens up.

You see the landscapes and daily life around the portrait in immersive films. You hear Jimmy tell the story of how each encounter came to be, slowly, built on trust. And you meet the people behind the image, in the places they call home.

The app is available again in the App Store, as a free companion to the books and exhibitions. We are a small team, so we are reconnecting the videos one by one, and the full collection will return step by step over the coming months.

For Android users, the app is temporarily unavailable due to new platform regulations.

Meanwhile, we are building something bigger: a new digital platform that brings the app back on every device, with even more to see, hear and discover.

Until then, keep looking. Every mirror holds a story waiting to be met.

Hold your phone over one of Jimmy’s images, as if you are about to take a photo. The app recognises the image and an eye appears on the photograph. Tap the eye, and the story behind the portrait begins to play.

Every image you scan becomes part of your own journey. Per chapter, you can see which portraits you have already met and which stories are still waiting for you. A gentle invitation to keep looking, one encounter at a time.

The VR Gallery brings you inside the communities featured in Homage to Humanity (only). Open the gallery in the app and move your phone around you, or swipe across the screen, and the 360º films unfold in every direction: the landscapes, the sounds and the daily life of the people Jimmy met. A way to come closer, take your time and meet people across the globe.

"You will go on a visual journey, you will meet people and you will feel things. I want to show you, and I want you to understand these people, and how important they are for you and me" - Jimmy Nelson
