Nenets - Siberia
Pavel & Jello, Khudi, Nenets |Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Distric, Siberia | Russia, 2018
The Khudi clan are members of the larger Nenets community. In Soviet times, Stalin’s government divided the local Nenets, including the Khudi clan, into ‘brigades’ that were forced to work on collective farms, while the children were sent to boarding school to learn to become ‘good communists’. These brigades still exist as semi- nomadic groups made up of members of the local comunity and led by a single chief.

With its projects, the Jimmy Nelson Foundation (JNF) is completing the circle Jimmy has started. As cultures are rapidly changing through time, and the world’s cultural diversity is at risk, now is the moment to act. The JNF supports Indigenous communities in preserving and passing on their traditional heritage and knowledge by investing in reciprocity and educational projects.
