Wodaabe - Chad
Wodaabe | Gerewol festival, Chari-Baguirmi region | Chad, 2016
The Ginnol is a f iendish mythical creature whom the Wodaabe believe comes from the barren lands. It can only be seen as a reflection or shadow – as if mimicking the heat haze of the day, like a desert mirage – or as a
distant fire that disappears over the horizon as the sun sets. The fear inflicted by these stories and beliefs has been known to drive people insane. The safest place to avoid the Ginnol is the wuro, the ultimate safe haven,
where there is food, water and the comfort of family.

With your purchase you support Indigenous communities taking their heritage into the future
With its projects, the Jimmy Nelson Foundation (JNF) is completing the circle Jimmy has started. As cultures are rapidly changing through time, and the world’s cultural diversity is at risk, now is the moment to act. The JNF supports Indigenous communities in preserving and passing on their traditional heritage and knowledge by investing in reciprocity and educational projects.
