Wodaabe - Chad
Wodaabe | Gerewol festival, Chari-Baguirmi region | Chad, 2016
The home environment of the Wodaabe people is called the wuro. Each wuro is divided into numerous family units known as suudus. On each one stands a large wooden ‘bed’, which is taken care of by the woman of the family.
The beds are a family’s most important domestic possession; they are carved with intricate patterns and decorated with colourful fabrics. Being easy to disassemble and transport, they are perfectly adapted to the Wodaabes’ nomadic way of life.
With your purchase you support Indigenous communities taking their heritage into the future
With its projects, the Jimmy Nelson Foundation (JNF) is completing the circle Jimmy has started. As cultures are rapidly changing through time, and the world’s cultural diversity is at risk, now is the moment to act. The JNF supports Indigenous communities in preserving and passing on their traditional heritage and knowledge by investing in reciprocity and educational projects.
