Bhutanese Mask Dancers - Bhutan
Bhutanese Mask Dancers | Chele La pass, Paro | Bhutan, 2016
The f luttering prayer f lags grace every high pass in Bhutan. They are a very important part of the Himalayan tradition of ensuring safe passage at high altitude. They come in two basic forms: horizontal coloured f lags and
vertical white flags. Each colour has a symbolic meaning: blue for sky, white for air, red for fire, green for water and yellow for soil. When hung all around a mountain pass, they form a chaotic tapestry of cultural affirmation.
With your purchase you support Indigenous communities taking their heritage into the future
With its projects, the Jimmy Nelson Foundation (JNF) is completing the circle Jimmy has started. As cultures are rapidly changing through time, and the world’s cultural diversity is at risk, now is the moment to act. The JNF supports Indigenous communities in preserving and passing on their traditional heritage and knowledge by investing in reciprocity and educational projects.
