The Samburu people originally lived in the Sudan Nile Valley. They reached Kenya some 500 years ago, moving southwards along the Rift Valley plains, together with their close relatives the Maasai. The Samburu, approximately 160,000 in number, settled in the Rift Valley in northern Kenya, just south of Lake Turkana.
