Bardi - Australia
Bardi | Cape Leveque, Dampier Peninsula, The Kimberley | Australia, 2018
Dreamtime are known by the general term Corroboree. The Bardi Ilma is a specific Corroboree ritual involving dance, singing and the use of emblematic totems: ceremonial objects made out of feathers and wood. The form these objects take is derived from dreams caused by the ancestors. The Bardi people believe they have lived before as spirits and will live on when their time on earth is over.

With its projects, the Jimmy Nelson Foundation (JNF) is completing the circle Jimmy has started. As cultures are rapidly changing through time, and the world’s cultural diversity is at risk, now is the moment to act. The JNF supports Indigenous communities in preserving and passing on their traditional heritage and knowledge by investing in reciprocity and educational projects.
