Kazakh - Mongolia
Kazakh | Khavtsalijn Am, Altan Tsogts Country, Bayan-Ölgii Provence,| Mongolia, 2017
The Kazakhs are the largest ethnic minority group in Mongolia. Almost 90 percent of them live in the north-western part of the country, Bayan-Ölgii. The Mongolian Kazakhs travelled through Russia to the Mongolian Altai Mountains living as semi-nomads, moving several times a year according to the season. The diaspora is by no means a homogenous group: there are many distinct communities with different traditions.

With its projects, the Jimmy Nelson Foundation (JNF) is completing the circle Jimmy has started. As cultures are rapidly changing through time, and the world’s cultural diversity is at risk, now is the moment to act. The JNF supports Indigenous communities in preserving and passing on their traditional heritage and knowledge by investing in reciprocity and educational projects.
