In his very first theatre production, Through the Human Lens, Jimmy steps out from behind the camera and onto the stage.
He takes his audience on a journey through the stories, doubts, insights, and intimate moments that have shaped his work. His reflections on landscapes, faces, and encounters are not a passive spectacle, but a fully immersive experience. The audience becomes part of the world in which Jimmy has been looking, listening, and learning for decades.
Jimmy uses photography as a means to explore human connectedness. But for this performance, he sets the camera aside to meet his audience directly. Not as a photographer presenting images, but as a guide who asks questions: questions about seeing and being seen, about what is lost when we no longer truly encounter one another, and about what can emerge when we do.
At the heart of every encounter lies a single question: what happens when two people look at one another without haste or judgment? This performance is an invitation to pause together, to look together, and to rediscover connection together. Because what Jimmy has ultimately learned, and what he wishes to share with his audience, is simple yet essential:
Our humanity only becomes visible when we take the time to truly see one another.
Although spoken in Dutch, the language of the performance is ultimately human, ensuring that everyone can understand and connect.
