The Last Stop
We are delighted to announce the last stop of the Jimmy Nelson Foundation’s traveling exhibition at the Zaans Museum.
The exhibition’s objective is to return the artwork of the communities to their rightful homes, thereby nurturing a sense of pride in preserving Dutch heritage. As a result, the Jimmy Nelson Foundation will enthusiastically donate each of the 20 communities one artwork at the end of this exhibition
Exhibition Opening: Saturday, 28 September – Meet Jimmy Nelson
Jimmy Nelson will be at the museum on Saturday, 28 September to officially open the exhibition and sign copies of his book Between the Sea and the Sky. It will be a festive afternoon where you’ll get an exclusive preview of the exhibition, meet Jimmy Nelson, have your book signed, and be styled by fashion duo Broke Ass Millionaires. You can also enjoy a drink at the Museum Café or get creative by making your own artwork with Zaans patterns on paper.
Workshops, Lectures, and TexLAB
Visitors can also explore the meanings and craftsmanship behind traditional Dutch attire at the TexLAB, where they’ll have hands-on access to creative textile assignments. The program includes workshops and lectures developed in collaboration with Modemuze, Crafts Council Nederland, Stichting de Zaanse Kaper, and textile expert Inge Bosman. For more information and a detailed schedule of events check the website from the Zaans Museum.
The Jimmy Nelson Foundation is excited to announce the launch of the ‘Ode Aan Nederland’ game, a unique and interactive experience designed to complement the ‘Ode Aan Nederland’ exhibition.
Crafted to foster a deeper connection to Dutch culture, the game invites visitors, families, and friends to engage with the exhibition in a playful and meaningful way. The game is available for download on the Foundation’s website or can be collected for free at the ticket counter of Muzee.
Giving back to the communities
Breaking free from conventional perspectives, “Ode aan Nederland” delves into the essence of 20 Dutch communities featured in Nelson’s latest book, “Between the Sea and the Sky”. Through the lens of Jimmy Nelson, this exhibition presents a profound exploration of the concealed and overlooked identity of a nation that, in its relentless march into the future, had appeared to lose touch with its authentic roots forever.
The heart of the exhibition lies in its reciprocity program of the Jimmy Nelson Foundation, which includes donating 20 artworks to the 20 communities that participated in the “Between the Sea and the Sky” project.
This initiative stands as a testament to Jimmy Nelson’s commitment to giving back to the communities that inspire his work. By giving back, a meaningful bond is nurtured between art, culture, and the communities, underscoring the significance of community engagement and collaboration.
