The Himba People

Illustration Antelope - The Himba People- Jimmy Nelson
Nestled in the far south-western corner of the African continent, Namibia sits silently, basking in its natural pride. This is one of the emptiest untouched landscapes still left on the planet. Vast seas of golden sand dunes sweep across the land as far as the eye can see.

Cultural group

The Himba people

The Himba are a community of semi-nomadic herders, many of whom still live and dress according to ancient traditions. They speak Herero and since the 16th century, they have lived in scattered settlements throughout the region of the Kunene River in north-west Namibia and south-west Angola, where they are called the Muchimba. The Himba number is estimated 20,000 to 50,000.
