A part of the Bardi (or Baada) community lives mainly north of the city of Broome on the uppermost point of the Dampier Peninsula. They live in harmony with the nearby ocean, which provides them with a variety of foods. The name of the local language is also Bardi.
The Aboriginal people living here represent one of the world’s oldest surviving cultures.
The Mowanjum people live near the city of Derby. Mowanjum is the collective name for a community whose members speak three different language groups. They share their belief in the creator spirit Wandjina and wear body paint designs made up of dots and lines, which symbolize the stars and sparks that connect them with their ancestors.
