Mundari - South Sudan
Mundari | Nyikabor, Terekeka State | South Sudan, 2016
The Mundari community live in the Nile valley as herders, and their cattle are central to their existence. In fact, armed Mundari herdsmen guard their prized animals with their very lives. The size of a herd signals the owner’s status within the group, as well as being a source of foodstuffs – the Mundari diet is almost exclusively milk-based, and cows are rarely killed for the meat they could provide.

With its projects, the Jimmy Nelson Foundation (JNF) is completing the circle Jimmy has started. As cultures are rapidly changing through time, and the world’s cultural diversity is at risk, now is the moment to act. The JNF supports Indigenous communities in preserving and passing on their traditional heritage and knowledge by investing in reciprocity and educational projects.
