Ladakhi - India
Perak Ladies, Ladakhi | Thikse Monastery, Ladakh | India, 2012
Wedged in between Pakistan and Tibet, in the remote northwest of India, the Ladakh district takes its name from La-dvags, meaning ‘land of mountain passes’ in Tibetan. Most of this plateau, that stretches from the Himalayas to the Kunlun mountains, lies at an altitude of over 3,000 metres and many of its passes are more than 5,000 metres above sea level.

With its projects, the Jimmy Nelson Foundation (JNF) is completing the circle Jimmy has started. As cultures are rapidly changing through time, and the world’s cultural diversity is at risk, now is the moment to act. The JNF supports Indigenous communities in preserving and passing on their traditional heritage and knowledge by investing in reciprocity and educational projects.
